DePuy Velys Robotic Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery

Depuy Velys Robot

Dr. Ihekweazu and the team of surgeons with the Fondren Orthopedic Group at Texas Orthopedic Hospital have been working closely with the team of engineers with DePuy to roll out the new platform.  The new system is an “imageless” technology, where a preoperative CT scan is NOT required, thereby reducing radiation exposure and cost to the patient.  During the operation, Dr. Ihekweazu, creates a virtual bone map of the knee which enables him to create a personalized surgical plan.  The DePuy Velys Robot then helps the surgeon stay within the planned boundaries that were defined when the plan was created when performing the bone cuts.  The goal of the new platform is to improve surgical results by improving accuracy.  This exciting and new Robotic knee replacement technology is a “game changer” for patients needing total knee replacement surgery.
